Where does the data come from?
Listing medians come from MarketCheck dealer listings. Wholesale context is the monthly Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index (Cox Automotive). Macro context is FRED used-car CPI and regional CPI. Forecasts refresh weekly.
How accurate are the forecasts?
We publish mean absolute percentage error, not a single accuracy percentage. The current mean absolute percentage error, the number of forecasts scored, and the horizons included are on /accuracy. A forecast counts only after its horizon has elapsed, against the later MarketCheck listing median for that segment. That figure is a live outcome, not a historical model backtest, and it is not a guarantee for any one vehicle. We do not publish a directional hit rate.
Does this replace vAuto or Black Book?
No. vAuto and Black Book tell you where prices are today. CarCast tells you where the segment median is heading over the next 30 and 60 days. Read it next to those tools.
What's included in the free plan?
You can open any public forecast page and see the 30-day median estimate, with no account and no card. Enthusiast ($9/mo) adds the 60-day horizon, the full P10/P50/P90 band, and price-move alerts, with 20 lookups a day. Dealers who want a lot review start with a five-vehicle market-risk review. The Dealer plan is $199/mo, with alerts on up to 500 segments.
Can I use this for wholesale buying decisions?
Yes, as a segment-level read next to your wholesale book. The 30- and 60-day figures are listing medians, not a VIN appraisal and not financial advice.
Do paid plans require a credit card?
Paid plans (Enthusiast and Dealer) are billed through checkout, so a card is required to start. The free plan never needs a card. Paid plans include a 30-day refund.
